What is End Mill?

It's a consumable cutting tool of the precision process for metal mold, machine tool parts, and various electronic equipment part, and etc.

- Product for which many varieties of a small amount and technological specialization are necessary.
- Product that has a characteristic which has to be discarded after using in spite of the expensive one.

End mill each part name

The shape of the end mill has 3 parts that are cutting part, shank part which supports the milling machine and neck part which connects to the shank part.

• Outside diameter : the maximum external diameter of the cutting edge of End Mill
• Shank diameter : the maximum external diameter of the shank part of End Mill
• Shank length : length of the support in the milling machine
• Length of cut : length of the cutting part of End Mill
• Overall length : whole length of the cutting part, shank part and neck part at the center line of the END Mill
• Number of Blades : It refers the number of the cutting blades, There are various types such as 1,2,3 or 4 blades but generally 2,3,4,5, and 6 blades are commonly used.

• Rank angle : It's very important part in the cutting performance of the End Mill. It means the angle between the hollow surface and the assumed center line when seeing the bottom end teeth from straight ahead.
• Radial primary relief : It means the first angle of the radial cutting part that is important in cutting performance as the rake angle.
• Radial secondary relief : It's the next angle from the primary relief that makes the sufficient space between the work material and End Mill during the cutting process.
• Land width : whole width of both radial primary and secondary reliefs.
• Axial secondary relief : the angle that is next to the axial primary relief.
• Flute : It's used in the passage that chip can be passed during the whole cutting process because chip cannot be discharged smoothly.

• Helix angle : angle of the twisted part along the temporary axis.
• Gashing : the passage that the processed chip can be passed during the cutting process.
• End teeth relief angle : tilt angle of the bottom cutting part on the axis.
• Axial primary relief : the tilt angle of the bottom cutting part on the temporary surface.
• Axial secondary relief : the angle that is next to the axial primary relief.
• Concavity(=DISH) : angle of bottom cutting edge toward the center of diameter, which both sides of the bottom cutting parts of End Mill passes.

Classification

- Classification of the shank type
In case of our company, we produce the appropriate products under the ANSI (American standard) and DIN or BS (European standard) because of the export regulations and the shank types are the following.

Straight shank - The product with constant cylinder-type of shank part.	Flat on shank - He product carved out according to the set screw on the shank part.	Threaded shank - The product that made the screws in the shank part.
Combination shank - The product that chuck more powerful to the shank part.	Taper shank - The product which the shank part forms the trapezoid shape.	Whistle notch shank - The product that tilted groove is carved out in the shank part.

- Classification of the radial cutting part
The radial relief is the one of the important factors of the End Mill and products are classified in types as the following.

• Eccentric type
  - Superior rigidity of cutting edge and roughness of surface
• Concave type
• Flat
• Processing is easy
  - Application for ball End Mill and Taper End Mill.
• It needs the secondary relief in case of the diameter is large.
  - In the international trend the eccentric type is used widely and our company Mainly produces the eccentric type except for the special application. The advantage is to maintain the intensity of the cutting edge in the constant relief indicator drop amount, and the tool life is increase in the constant relief angle.
